St. Matthias HS students support AIDS Walk 2003

San Pedro Region

More than 300 of Downey's St. Matthias High School students along with parents and school faculty walked in this years AIDS Walk L.A. on Oct. 19.  The students raised over $4,000 in donations to help support the fight against AIDS.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for the St. Matthias High School community to show our total support for all those who are affected and infected with the HIV/AIDS virus," said campus minister Thomas Mondello.  "Several students and faculty members have personally experienced the pain of this terrible disease.  They are walking in memory of loved ones who have lost their battle with AIDS."

Students who participated in the walk contributed their time, effort and resources to help get out the message that a stronger awareness is needed that there is not yet a cure for this disease.
