Pius X / St. Matthias High School Alumni Association Establishes Internet PresenceMaintaining Contact with School and the GraduatesMarch 27, 2004, Downey, California -- June graduations celebrate beginnings, whether a student is going onto college, getting married, or starting a new job. The Alumni Committee of Pius X / St. Matthias High School launched a new Web site www.piusxstmatthiasalum.org on Saturday, March 27th in advance of the graduation of its 50th academic class in 2004. During March of 1995, it was announced that Pius X, a co-educational high school, would become a co-institutional high school with St. Matthias, phasing out the Pius X program over a three-year period. This resulted in a larger all-girls high school located on the Pius X campus. With the Web site, alumni from both schools will be able to get in contact with one another more easily," says Margaret Meland, Alumni Director and Class of 1980. Meland said, "The Alumni information site designed and maintained by Ron Zurek from the Pius X Class of 1970, will help to reach out and keep class members, families, and friends informed on current events at the school and upcoming class reunions." There is a "News" button on the home page for press releases and recent media coverage. Presently under construction are the class rosters and the e-mail addresses of the students of Pius X and St. Matthias. By clicking on the "Class Rosters" button you will be able to get all the names of alumni from 1955 to 2004 for both schools. Ron Zurek also designed the Web site for his Pius X Class of 1970, helping to make class members aware of a 30-year reunion in Costa Mesa the weekend of September 22-24, 2000. Many class members posted their e-mail address on the Web site making it easier to rekindle past friendships. The Pius X Class of 1969 thought a Web site for this purpose was such a good idea, they asked Ron to design one for their class.
